Funding for Brunel Place sets new pulse for Heart of Slough


U+I’s vision for Slough has received a kick-start as AshbyCapital, the real estate investment advisor, has agreed to fund 2 Brunel Place, the first phase of U+I’s regeneration project in the centre of town. 

The 99,000 sq. ft. office building will transform a currently derelict site into a new commercial hub that creates a new connection between Slough’s train and bus station and the newly regenerated high street. 

There are a lot of reasons why we love Slough. Contrary to the image portrayed as the home of hit BBC series The Office, it has the highest concentration of global corporate HQs in the UK and a local economy of £2.5 billion. The town has also been recognised as one of the 20 most competitive locations in the United Kingdom as the service, software and creative services have flocked to this unassuming global hub. 

U+I is pleased to have been a part of Slough since acquiring the Brunel Place site in 2006. Forming a key component of Slough Borough Council’s £450m Heart of Slough regeneration project, Brunel Place will deliver a new commercial quarter in the centre of the town. The development will add to the line-up of leading UK and international companies already located in Slough and is projected to create over 1,000 jobs upon completion, further bolstering its status as one of the UK’s most productive towns.  

To set the job-creation tone of the development, in 2015 we opened the Culture Café, a pop-up cafe on-site which aimed to support long-term unemployed local people back into work. A partnership with local social enterprise The Real Experience, participants had the opportunity to receive training in customer service, food and beverage preparation, the hospitality sector and life skills, whilst putting them into practice in a supportive environment. 

Following AshbyCapital’s injection of funding for 2 Brunel Place, contractor Bowmer & Kirkland is now on site. Construction of the first phase of our Brunel Place project is scheduled to complete in 2018 – just in time for Crossrail’s grand entrance.
With 2 Brunel Place forming part of the overall Brunel Place redevelopment, in total 362,000 sq. ft. of new office space will be created across three striking buildings designed by Sheppard Robson
