Green Light for Mill Green Designer Outlet Village

We’re pleased to announce that Cannock Chase District Council has unanimously resolved to grant planning approval for the Mill Green Designer Outlet Village.

This will be the biggest development of its kind in the West Midlands, whose residents are currently a 2 hour drive away from the nearest upmarket outlet village. With a GDV of £110 million, Mill Green will cover 26, 505 sq m and house up to 130 designer outlet stores, along with new restaurants and 2,000 car parking spaces.

The scheme will create 1,200 new jobs and apprenticeships across the construction and retail sectors, plus we’re expecting around 3 million additional visitors to the area each year causing a real boost to the local economy. All this adds up to more than £500 million of socio-economic improvements for Cannock over the next 10 years.

In partnership with Rioja Developments, we’re also investing in considerable off site improvements including the widening of Eastern Way and better connectivity between the site and the town centre. Neighbouring locations, such as Cannock Station and Mill Green Nature Reserve, will also benefit from extensive landscaping, as well as better pedestrian and cycle access via a new heritage trail.

Due to size and scope of the scheme, the council’s decision will now be referred to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) for him to consider whether the application should be ‘called in’ and decided by him or the local council.

With planning approval granted, phase one of the development could commence by the end of 2016, and we could see the likes of Lacoste, Polo Ralph Lauren, Diesel and Jack Wills opening at Mill Green in 2018.
