A new one-of-a-kind destination for Deptford

09.08.16

Exciting line up of local independent businesses announced for Deptford Market Yard.

Housed within the renovated historical railway arches next to Deptford station, Deptford Market Yard will build on the already thriving local market and retail scene, helping to take the area from undiscovered food and shopping gem, to established London destination. Offering a platform for local businesses to reach a wider audience, Deptford Market Yard is set to become the go–to destination for people all over London.

Many of the new businesses are local start-ups and Deptford Market Yard is their first permanent, physical space. Previously they’ve run street food trucks, pop up shops and market stalls.

Businesses will start to open towards the end on August, with nearly all of them fully operational by early October.

Street food and supper club fans will be well catered for with Frankie Goes to Bollywood, the latest take on Indian inspired fast food, The Cheese Bar - the first bricks and mortar home for festival regular The Cheese Truck, Jamaican street food specialists Mama’s Jerkand supper club turned all day eatery, Dirty Apron.

In addition to this, there’s creative studios such as Childsdraw - the first permanent shop for local artist Jessica Childs whose illustrations are inspired by the local area, industrial homewear store and gallery, Depot, run by textile artist Naomi Ryder, lifestyle boutique Win & Ruby as well as florist-come-interiors store Room.

Fashion followers will find Plain Bear and their distinctive hand-printed clothing while Gita’s Portal and Be London will each offer their own unique, handmade, fashion items made with African prints. The Box will offer both residents and visitors the latest hair cuts, colouring techniques and ethical/ vegan hair products.

For a caffeine or cocktail fix, try Lomond Coffee who will roast and serve their own blend of the black stuff or Little Nan’s, the first fully permanent residency for the award winning pop-up who will serve their delicious range of cocktails in teapots.

And finally, not just for crazy cats and acrobats, Circus Fit is a fun fusion of circus aerial skills with fitness to build muscle and learn some cool moves.

Jessica Childs of Childs Draw said, “"It’s great to be part of the New Deptford Market Yard alongside other independent businesses. As a local person I’m psyched to see a fresh new space for Deptford residents and visitors.”

As well as the 14 arches, Deptford Market Yard will be home to a regular weekend market and further retail spaces all to be announced at a later date.

The outlets at Deptford Market Yard will begin to open from mid August with all stores and restaurants set to be fully operational by early October. For more information please visit www.deptfordmarketyard.com or follow @DeptfordMktYard on Twitter/Instagram.
