Applications open at Field Brighton

This is FIELD, a temporary workspace project launching at our Preston Barracks development on Lewes Road in the New Year. We’re looking for Brighton & Hove based start-ups with a big vision to build a business based on an innovative physical product to apply via from today.

We’ve spent the past few months bringing the disused building on the site back into use to create a functional space that will allow entrepreneurial makers to make the space their own. The building will also have some shared space including an old rifle range hall that will be used as an event space.

We want the FIELD project to bring together like-minded people in a community that thrives on the free exchange of ideas. Our ultimate goal is to create a large scale campus for high growth product design and technology businesses, as part of the regeneration of Preston Barracks development. The temporary project has been made possible with £7.7m of funding from the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership.

We also have some Friends of Field working in the building. The Wood Store, a reclaimed wood furniture maker and recycling enterprise are settled into their new workshop and zero waste drinks producer Old Tree (pictured above) are getting set-up to grow their burgeoning fermented drinks company operation currently part of Silo Brighton. The Bike Hub, previously at Circus Street are also set to create a bicycle re-cycling and repair workshop on the site.
