Asking the right questions in Ashford

U+I recently ‘set up shop’ in Ashford to carry out several days of community consultations, gathering feedback on their regeneration aspirations for the area.

Between 18-19 March and 22-23 March, 339 members of public spoke to the team based at the McArthurGlen retail outlet and County Square shopping centre to share their initial thoughts on U+I’s regeneration plans for Victoria Way in Ashford.

Victoria Way is set to transform two vacant sites on Victoria Road.  The proposed regeneration would deliver 225 new homes, a 120 bed hotel, an Aldi supermarket, flexible office / retail floor space and Chapel Down’s new Curious Brewery and visitor centre, all within a stone’s throw of Ashford International train station and connecting to the heart of the town.

Following a very successful crowdfunding campaign, Chapel Down managed to raise over £1m to build a state-of-the-art new brewery and visitor attraction. A core part of the U+I development, the brewery will attract thousands of visitors to the site every year. And what better way to discuss the opening of a new brewery than by handing out samples of some of Kent’s finest?

The Victoria Way regeneration scheme is projected to see an increase of £3.9m in spend per annum by new residents and tourists visiting the town’s attractions, and bring hundreds of new jobs to the area.

Following the consultations, plans will be submitted in Spring 2016. Find out more about the proposed scheme for Ashford by visiting the the consultation website
